Scripture Reflection 3 "Go into the world and proclaim the gospel to every creature." - Mark 16:15

Every day, we struggle for survival. This is a fact. And every day, we make a move just so we can gain something. A common fact among every one.

These past few days, I have been having super rough days. These are those types of days when you feel restless and so tired that you want to escape from everything and give yourself a super vacation spree. But reading the scriptures for today gave me a different outlook in my struggling, challenging yet BLESSED life.

Every day, God communicates to us. Do you know that? And every day, He grabs our hand and leads us onto the light. Can you see that? Maybe yes, maybe no.

In the reading today, Saul was blinded by a bright light. Nevertheless, he never had second thoughts of following what the Lord told him to do. "Get up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told everything appointed for you to do", says the Lord to Saul.

Have you ever heard the Lord's voice telling you what to do?

Jesus talks to us in many ways. He could appear as a stranger who we bumped into in the streets, a friend beside us, our hatest classmate, a sweet child smiling at us. There may be different ways but His message to us remains the same. He wants us to tell the world about Him.

A song once said, "Let us tell the world of His love, the greatest love the world has known." Indeed, His love is the greatest love of all. And knowing about it does not end in just feeling how much He really loves us but also in sharing to others the love of God.

In the Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples to go into the world and proclaim the gospel. These happened ages ago. Today is a new generation. However, the challenge remains the same - the challenge to be Jesus' new disciples.

Following the path of discipleship is never easy. It could be even harder than our normal lives could be. The difference is, once we learned to follow Jesus and preach his good news, His presence remains in us. Telling the people of God’s word does not literally means that one should enter the religious life and become priests and nuns. That’s still a long way to go.
God is offering us a simple way. But we are just too blinded by the light He is showing before our eyes that is why we fail to follow Him at times.

Take it from my personal reflection.

  1. God speaks in the silence of our hearts. Once we learn to deafen our ears from the world, then, we shall hear His voice.
  2. God does not ask us to offer our 24/7 to Him. He knows we have a life to take care of. What He is asking us is to offer even a few moments of our 24/7 to tell Him things, to thank Him, to talk to Him. He may know all the things we do, but like us, He also wants things to be shared to Him personally.
  3. God gives us a challenge to be His disciples in this new age. He does not specifically tell us to be priests and nuns. But He wants us to share our experience of knowing Him to our friends so that they, too, may know Him and experience the joy we have in knowing Him.
These are 3 simple things I have reflected upon. Three simple things that even you can think of. But one thing that struck me is knowing that upon realizing these 3 simple and can be so-called common things, I have felt Jesus in my heart.

Every day is a struggling day for me. Every day is a working day. And everyday will remain as a keep on working day. But the word of the Lord shall remain as the food to my soul and the nourishment to my mind and spirit. God's words are so marvelous that at times we find it hard to decipher what it is that He means exactly. Just remember God's greatest commandment. "Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind." And in loving God means loving your neighbors as you love yourself. Easy to say. Easy to read. Super easy to memorize. The challenge remains and the simplest way to accept the challenge awaits us - we've got to walk the talk.
